The past two weeks saw the 101 Inf Bn being put through their paces before their deployment to MINURCAT on September 17. The battalion was exercised in ambush drills, command and control, helicopter and APC drills, navigation, and survival techniques. A long-range patrol to the Kilworth area was carried out by Recce Coy.
On visiting troops in training in the Glen of Imal the Chief of Staff, Lt Gen Dermot Earley, wished everyone the very best of luck in the operation they are about to undertake. Encouraging those who have served overseas before to help and guide troops on their first mission the Chief of Staff reaffirmed the importance of Ireland’s contribution to the peace, security and stability for the people of Chad and the Central African Republic.
