The National Ploughing Championships took place this year in Athy Co. Kildare from September 22-23. To assist in the running of the event engineers from 1 Field Engineers, 4 Field Engineers, and the current Eng Young Officer’s course built a 80ft Bailey Bridge across the canal in Athy. Capable of taking 40tons the bridge was primarily used for pedestrian crossing to the event but was also part of the emergency plan giving rescue services access to either bank of the canal if needed.
