This year’s Advanced Divers Course took place in the Lahinch Co. Clare area from September 21-25. Instructors from the Army Diving Group (ADG) took students through several exercises including the latest CPR techniques, diving in rough water, and underwater navigation. With windy conditions the skills of the Coxswains commanding the RIBs (Rigid Inflatable Boats) were also put to the test who had to deploy and recovery divers in rough seas. Divers of the ADG come from all over the Permanent Defence Forces and include company commanders, medics, pilots, Reserve Defence Forces Cadre staff, and technicians. “They are a fantastic group of people to work with,” said CQMS Mick Duffy 65 Res Inf Bn, “the varied professions enhance our group’s capabilities.” The ADG facilitates diving as a sport within the Defence Forces, but also provides divers and RIB crews for exercises and if called upon in-shore Search and Rescue.
